I had found Leela rather unsophisticated, which is why I find it hard to imagine Joanna Lumley playing her. Mary Tamm's Romana was like my ideal woman, even though I was only nine at the time, because she not only looked so good, she was so intelligent and self-confident. I agree she would have made...

If Brian Clemens hadn't been fired at the end of S5, then Gabrielle Drake would probably have got the part of Diana Rigg's replacement, playing a character rather like Purdey (let's call her "Gaby" for ease of reference) in 1967 - which would have been a big improvement on the character of...

Purdey is a much more engaging character than Tara for me. I agree with Rich that she's the best thing about TNA.

Cathy Gale. There's just no comparison between her and Tara King. Cathy is superwoman, Tara is Steed's little puppy.

I voted for Emma Peel.

These arguments that 'without Steed there would be no Avengers' strike me as a little disingenuous. The question is about feelings. One could equally well say that without ABC there would have been no Avengers, but if there was a Steed v. ABC poll, I don't see ABC winning.

Apologies for bringing the thread back on topic. The big surprise of this poll for me was how extraordinarily well S3 did. We hear a lot from enthusiasts for TNA and Tara King, but relatively little from fans of the Cathy Gale era. Cathy Gale is a revolutionary figure in the portrayal of women on te...

My off-the-cuff ranking would have been: 1. Season 4 - I can see a lot of people trying to be iconoclastic about this one, but really... 2. Season 5 - Nobody gets the better of Emma Peel. 3. Season 6 - Some of the episodes are excellent, although others are terrible. 4. TNA S1 - Purdey and Gambit's ...

I don't think Pandora's that bad, but I can see why people find it so irritating. How can Tara possibly be so daft? I found it fascinating to think that the time she's allegedly been transported to (1915) was not much further back in time in 1968 than 1968 is now, but difference in dress, lifestyle ...

I've done some Googling now and I can't find another source for that information that doesn't cite the Wikipedia article. The detail was added to the Wikipedia article by IP address 81.111.117.110 at 16:10, 2 February 2009. The fact it was added by an anonymous contributor doesn't fill me with treme...

The name Tara King was a random choice on Linda Thorson's part. I doubt if she ever gave thought to history, she just simply liked the name when put together. Any family mentioned later is simply a coincidence IMHO. But I wasn't saying that she gave any thought to the history, I said: My theory: Li...
