Word on the street is that the Cathy Gale-era episodes will not be released on Blu-ray anywhere. DVD all the way for Series 1-3.

I just sprang for a brand new region-free DVD player, so I'll be damned if I'll also buy a Blu-ray player just to play Avengers discs. I'll be satisfied with the new DVD sets, providing of course they are error-free. Let's hope the first set gets corrected and the subsequent sets are quality-controlled before release so this sort of thing doesn't happen again. As for Season 4, my wish would be for at least some of the episodes to include the "chessboard" introduction, as originally broadcast in the US. Wishful thinking I suppose, but it is better than simply having the opening separate as an "extra" feature. The intro was not meant to exist on its own; it was placed in front of each episode on the US ABC network prints for a reason; to introduce US viewers to this new British import.

Oh, no, it's not doing very well.
They still sell as much DVD players/recorders in half a year as there has been sold BR-players during all years IN TOTAL.
I had the figures once. Quite astonishing.

I think that having to keep buying is the idea behind it.
Right so.
"Hollywood" has the idea that if they launch a new system, sales will increase.
That's not something I've made up.

Well, well, at least they exist.

Anyway: yesterday was a memorable day. My parents and I watched the last episode of the 136 Avengers episode we have on DVD.
We started watching everything in January 2008.

Next: watch all of them... a 2nd time!

Really? I'm impressed. You've timed that just right to watch them on the new Optimum set! 8)

Good. There's nothing that 405-line VT can offer that can't be achieved by an in-machine "upscaler" as BD players already do for DVD...

Will Blu-ray go the way of Laser Discs, those oversized monstrosities that were all the rage for awhile and then disappeared? Time will tell.

Anyone who remembers the trouble to which you had to go to buy a Laserdisc (and I'm one who does), will tell you that LD never gained the high ground in High Street stores like Blu-ray has (certainly in the UK and Europe).

Blu-ray is here to stay. Of that I am sure.
