I really find your opinion intriguing and I do mean that in a good way. I would argue the fact that Steed was the only constant in the show. His partners were changed out every couple of years. The other problem with this question is that it has always been Steed AND Keel, Steed AND Gale, Steed AND Peel, Steed AND King, Steed AND Gambit/Purdey. So to choose between Steed and any one of his partners is almost an impossible task in my opinion.Captain Crusoe wrote:I voted for Emma Peel.
These arguments that 'without Steed there would be no Avengers' strike me as a little disingenuous. The question is about feelings. One could equally well say that without ABC there would have been no Avengers, but if there was a Steed v. ABC poll, I don't see ABC winning.
That was a great little statment Captain. And it's a great poll Dandy. Fun to think of these things when you are laid up.

Steed. He was the constant thread that kept the series together through all those partner changes. The series survived when Honor, Diana and Linda left. I can't imagine it would have continued had Steed left.
It kills me that I had to vote that way, because I totally, completely, uncontrollably love Emma
In fact I have watched most of the Emma seasons over the last three days. Our area of Virginia has been in the middle of a nor'easter since Thursday, and we have been without power and TV. I do have a generator and a DVD player, so Emma it was.
