Patrick Macnee certainly did his bit for the balance of trade, with The Avengers always being shown somewhere around the world!

He wasn't even recognised for the Bafta, when each of his partners got one. It was left to Diana Rigg to recognise Patrick's huge contribution (as Joanna did with Gareth).

I loved that Joanna mentioned Gareth in her speech. I think that with all the attention paid to the ground-breaking women (and rightly so), people sort of forget that it takes a very special male actor to be willing to share the screen with them. Not every actor would be willing to play off a strong female character back in the day, but both Gareth and Patrick pulled it off admirably.

It was just suggested on the DanielPatrick Macnee fan site that we could try to get him nominated for a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Here is the info for the nominating process. I say let's get the ball rolling!

Nomination process
Each year, an average of 200 nominations are submitted to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame Selection Committee. Anyone, including fans, can nominate anyone active in the field of entertainment, as long as the nominee or his or her management is in agreement with the nomination. (A letter of agreement from the nominated celebrity or representative must accompany the application.) Nominees must have a minimum of 5 years' experience in the category for which they are nominated. Posthumous nominees must be deceased at least 5 years. At a meeting each June, the Committee selects approximately 20 celebrities to receive stars on the Walk of Fame during the following year. One posthumous award is given each year as well. The nominations of those not selected are "rolled over" to the following year for reconsideration; those not selected two years in a row are dropped, and must be renominated to receive further consideration. Living recipients must agree to personally attend a presentation ceremony within five years of selection. A relative of deceased recipients must attend posthumous presentations. Presentation ceremonies are open to the public.[55]

A fee (currently USD $25,000), payable at time of selection, is collected to pay for the creation and installation of the star, as well as general maintenance of the Walk of Fame. The fee is usually paid by the nominating organization, which may be a fan club, or a film studio, record company, broadcaster, or other sponsor involved with the honoree's current or ongoing project.[56][15] The Starz cable network, for example, paid for Dennis Hopper's star as part of the promotion for its series Crash. It was unveiled in March 2010, shortly before his death.[57][15]

A nice idea but I don't think we have a fan club that can afford $25,000!

It may seem a daunting task, but with all the other fan sites and numerous fans and friends of Pats, I remain optomistic. It would depend first upon Pats agreement. Then I'd have to appeal globally! What say the rest of you?

Maybe Optimum Video would like to underwrite a portion. It would garner a lot of attention for the series. And then as OneKnight suggested, maybe fans world wide would contribute. He's not getting any younger. I think he's been sadly overlooked for years in terms of honors and recogniton.

Thanks! An excellent suggestion! I will be doing further research as to the best way to go about organizing a nomination. Ideas from you folks, like this one, can certainly direct me to the best plan of action!

Listened to Brian's commentary last night. I really loved it, it's (From what I've seen so far with the Optimum Edition) the best conversation ever. He has interesting notes to mention, I was glad to hear about Patrick's situation, cool to hear that he's fine.
But I was astonished during the end credits, is it only the case for the disc I have or is the interview cut at the end after the ABC logo, on your discs, too ?

But anyway, just one word to say : WELL DONE ! That's what we needed !

I don't have the discs yet, but I did read that Brian couldn't be shut up and they ran out of time. So, yes, all the discs are the same.
