Dead duck is definitely the best Avengers novel to make it into print. The only one to capture the feel of the tv series. When I read this one it sort of played out in my mind like an undiscovered monochrome Mrs Peel episode. Saga of happy valley by Barlow is another good one, if you can get past the mis-spelling of Peal and Stead for copyright reasons. Too many targets was also enjoyable, and a bit different in that it featured all the characters fro Dr Keel to Tara. Most fans agree the Garforth quartet were a mess. I won't be reading those again!
