This forum is more reasonable than many. It has a lot of member but very few actually frequent.

The Town of No Return is, for me, the best ever Avengers episode. Epic is memorable. The worst? I can't stand Gladiators.

Gladiators is very difficult to enjoy. Does it have any fans at all? I don't think it would work in any show, not even The Professionals or Kung Fu - its fantasy element (or ridiculously unbelievable element) jibes against its grim violence to leave a nasty taste in the mouth. It's like the antithesis to The Eagle's Nest, and shows how downhill the series went.

Epic is mad, and Kenneth J Warren seemed to get typecast in that sort of role in ITC shows and other things of the period; but it's fascinating, and Peter Wyngarde is as amusing and magnetic as always.

Yeah, Gladiators is a tough one to defend, though it does have some good moments, as any episode does, mainly Purdey and Gambit driving around having one of their off-kilter conversations. I think it's my least-favourite of TNA's run, though, and the worst of the Canadian stories by far.

it's the unpleasant, unavengerish moments which are indefensable, such as the murder outside the local shop and the vultures gathering around the (presumably) rotting corpse in the car boot. That has no place in The Avengers, new or old.

The spy spoof schtick was starting to become a crowded field - when did Get Smart start (and Wild Wild West, not to mention the Flint films, Casino Royale, Billion Dollar Brain etc...) It was a good time to tread some new old ground, the Avengers had used to be strong on drama, and in a way it did return to its Bryce era dramatic roots despite the surrealism and larger-than-life characters.
i believe both get smart and wild west way started in 1965. wild wild west on CBS....get smart on rival NBC
