But the videotapes did not survive. They had been telerecorded, i.e. filmed by pointing a film camera at a video playback on a projection screen. Then they only existed as film negatives, until new positives were struck in the 1990s - and it is these films which were then mastered for VHS and DVD releases. The original videotape information from the 60s was long-lost, the tapes being reused in the 60s themselves.Norbert wrote:Of course, it does not differ from player to player. An American Avengers episode runs 52 min. approx., whereas a European episode only runs 50 min. The episodes of the first three seasons were videotaped. Hence, there is no difference in speed.

Today I watched Cathy Gale episode "The Medicine Men". It went from 10.26 till 11.17, which makes 51 minutes.Courier13 wrote:I've just watched Death A La Carte and it is approximately 51:15 minutes long (including intro and Weinberg endcredits).Peter Motte wrote:Watched today: Brief for Murder,
from 10.10 till 11.02, that is from the moment the ABC-screen appears (those three dishes) and the final ABC-screen disappears.
So, that makes 52 minutes.
And, the box mentions "PAL".
So, 52 minutes is rather long. I don't think they have cut anything.
By the way: if they would have cut something, what would they have cut? It looks to me as if cutting parts would actually be much more costly than just ram the original full length on disc.
Cathy Gale with an eye patch looks like Nadine in Twin Peaks with an eye patch.

Cathy Gale episode: "The Grandeur that Rome was"
Time: from 9.06 till 9.56, so total viewing time: 50 minutes.
The scenario was slightly familiar. Maybe they used it later on for a Tara King episode?
I don't think I remember Emma Peel's episode "Silent Dust".

Now I'm on it, I can't stop it anymore:Allard wrote:Thank you very much for your timing of the episodes. I now have enough to go on, thank you very much for your help.
The Golden Fleece, from 10.12 - 11.03 makes 51 minutes.
The odd thing is my father had the impression that it was shorter than the other ones.
I knew it couldn't be, as tv-formats don't make "short and long" episodes of the same series, but I also had the impression it went faster.
I also had that feeling with the previous installment, "The Grandeur that Rome was".
Toi me that means the story telling in those episodes improved.

"Don't Look Behind you": 20.049-21.40 = 51 minutes.
Be aware: that's from the beginning of the ABC-sign till it appears again, but there's some text following, so it might be half a minute or even a minute lopnger.
This is an epiosde I'ld like to compare with Emma Peels' "The Joker".
