Mandrake Charity Book from Rodney Marshall

Post by Big Bear »

Rodney Marshall has just announced a fantastic script book for Mandrake. A lovely tribute to his father's work with all proceeds going to The Alzheimer's Society.
________________________________________________________

The inspiration for this book came from the final weeks of Roger’s life. Having suffered from Alzheimer’s for a number of years, he finally went into a specialist unit in a care home. My mother had the idea of bringing in a collage of photographs from his time working on the Honor Blackman era of The Avengers. Despite his confusion about the present day, he immediately pointed to a photo from Mandrake, and identified Annette Andre. He had mentally time-travelled back to one of the happiest times in his professional career.

This publication of the script is both a celebration of his creative talents and an opportunity to raise funds for support and research into a terrible disease which can leave people increasingly confused, frustrated and isolated. For every copy of this book sold, the profits will go towards the Alzheimer’s Society.
The Alzheimer’s Society: United Against Dementia has, as its overall vision, ‘a world without dementia’. Their four-goal mission is to: change the face of dementia research; demonstrate best practice in dementia care and support; provide the best advice and support to anyone dealing with dementia; influence the state and society to enable those affected by dementia to live as they wish to live. You can get information, support, donate or volunteer to help, via alzheimers.org.uk.

This would have been an instant purchase for me, but Amazon UK will not ship to my address in Belgium and it's currently unavailable on Amazon France.

Rodney's lived in France for quite a long time so may be able to wangle something, or at least be sympathetic, if you want me to send him a DM on Twitter just let me know what you want to say (you can private-message me here) and I'll pass it on.
