Mrs Macnee was of course Katherine Woodville who was in the very first Avengers episode, Hot Snow, playing the unfortunate Peggy - the fiance of Davd Keel that gets bumped off and started the whole thing off.

They divorced in 1969.

She also appeared in Propellant 23, although she and Macnee didn't seem to have much chemistry in the few scenes they shared. I enjoyed reading his account of the marriage in his bio - expecially about the costs of keeping her horse.

Woodville wanted to audition for the show, as I remember as Emma Peel. I don't know how far she got. I know PM wasn't particularly enthusiastic.

She also left him and came back twice. It was her leaving the first time that convinced Diana Rigg to stay on as Emma for the colour season. She came to tell Patrick she was quitting and he was so upset he asked her to stay on as a sort of support system. Shows what good friends they were.

The second time he turned her down flat.

Lovely, Helen, and you squeezed a lot of factoids in there! The only quibble--Woodville was Patrick's second wife, his first, Barbara, being the mother of his children. Love the music, too!
