Cathy Gale. There's just no comparison between her and Tara King. Cathy is superwoman, Tara is Steed's little puppy.

There's no need to insult one Avengers lady to big up another. They all had lots of good points!

Tara, for the same reasons that I preferred Purdey over Cathy. Cathy was just too antagonistic for my taste.

And, I still hate the leather "leisure suit" Cathy wore. Sure, it was functional - but it was ugly.

Masculine, yes. But ugly?

Question: would leather really be functional for fighting?

From the sounds of things, no--apparently it was all stiff and creaky. But the bottom of the pants didn't split open, and that's all they were worried about. (Gareth had the same problem doing fights in unforgivingly tight seventies trousers. Do my great relief, they never gave him leather pants. )

I believe the right leather, if correctly sewn would have worked well. Motorcycle leathers come to mind. They're tough and flexible.

Maybe "ugly" is the wrong word. I just thought that fighting leathers shouldn't have been cut like an everyday man's suit.

I voted for Tara, but it was a difficult decision. For me, Cathy and Tara were the 'original' Avenger girls. By that I mean they were the first female Avengers of their 'type', whereas Emma was clearly influenced by Cathy and Purdey combined elements from each of her predecessors.

She could have been a Cathy clone - and was for a fraction of one episode - but due to the efforts of Diana Rigg Emma Peel became her own person. However I agree that the roots of Emma are in Cathy quite clearly.

I think Tara's predecessor, in that way of thinking, was possibly Venus. I agree that Purdey was a little bit of each of them and a little bit of none of them.
