Excellent! Thank you.dissolute wrote: ↑Sat Jul 29, 2023 1:56 am By the way, it's not an arrow. According to Wikipedia, it'sThe shield below the antelope has the name and address of Herbert Johnson, at the time it was 38 New Bond St.An antelope sejant with the motto: Latin: "Numquam non paratus" (Never unprepared). The antelope sejant may represent a visual pun, for it is in the crest of the Capps family of Norfolk and Kent.
And thanks to all who helped fill in the blanks on this post.

Re: John Steed And His Bowler Hat
Whatever the details, when Steed is fully suited up it really looks the proper way it should. Just that extra bit of elegance and quality without going over the top into dandyism. Most of what you see on tv is fake, that cabinet with the perfect eighteenth century is look is ply wood and papier mâché, but Steeds suits look the real thing and that we have some evidence they come from real shops is a nice confirmation.

Here is the "arrow" I was talking about on the lining of Steeds bowler
Certainly could be mistaken at first glance for a directional arrow (I did) don't you think?

Another bowler featured in the series but this one not worn by our hero.
It appears to have different markings in the liner.
Anyone know the brand?

I don't know the brand and a surprising number of hatmakers used a device with a shield surrounded by a garter so that doesn't really help - Christys', Burton, Henry Heath - even French and Dutch hatmakers used the devices. https://www.silktophats.eu/coatsofarms.html

It looks like it might read "William Robertson & Sons" or something like that, but it could just as easily be Whittington Boothsthwaite & Fisk, it's too indistinct. The first letter is almost definitely a W.

My business brain (and I stated this earlier in the thread) is wondering why we see different makers of these bowlers when the shows brass might have swung a decent deal with one company to the mutual benefit of both parities.
Just food for thought

And it's definitely paid product placement, as the actor waves it about in front of the camera with the logo showing for quite a while.unclefester wrote: ↑Wed Nov 01, 2023 11:30 am My business brain (and I stated this earlier in the thread) is wondering why we see different makers of these bowlers when the shows brass might have swung a decent deal with one company to the mutual benefit of both parities.

There's a famous one for Breitling watches in Murdersville which Clemens always used to laugh at when he saw it as the logo was unintentionally cropped.
