Let's put this to bed, Noel.

I accept what you say about the all caps. Please try to make your posts as legible to others as you are able.

If my posts are hard for you to read, then please understand that yours are equally tough on the eyes of others. At least try to make double returns between parapgraphs.

Thanks.

As for the other matter - there are many people involved in the production of the DVDs and I can say CATEGORICALLY that Jaz is not responsible for a single one of the problems that have been found with these DVDs.

I say that not as a friend of Jaz's, but as someone who knows what went on, and the exceptional efforts that Jaz made to make these DVDs special.

Neither Jaz or I had any control over technical aspects of restoration or authoring and both of us (and others) worked on the DVDs on a voluntary, unpaid basis.

It is completely unfair that you have singled him out for criticism, as bluntly, Jaz is not responsible for the problems you have encountered. Their checking was not part of his role on the releases, nor were they mine.

If you have made an effort to redress the balance with Jaz, then I am pleased to hear that.

Best wishes,
Alan

Noel, the site will be updated when the fallout from the DVDs is over and my mood concerning the series is improved. To me, anniversaries are irrelevant, so I wasn't planning to mark it in any particular way in any case.

Please trust my judgement - Jaz was not responsible for the problems that you and others have experienced with the DVDs. I suggest you drop it completely and accept the word of someone who knows exactly what has happened with these DVDs (i.e. me!).

I can't reveal details for confidentiality reasons, but believe me, had Jaz not been involved in these releases, Avengers fans would have far more cause to be disappointed with what would have been produced.

I for one would really appreciate all the slagging off about these dvds to stop, its starting to become painful logging in to this forum and reading abuse. I know its highly annoying and at the end of the day those of us who have purchased these sets with errors have bought a faulty product. But the faults were down to Optimum, there really is no need to be personal with others on here, it achieves nothing - except winding people up! - and I think a level of perspective is required by some - they're dvds!

I know people are still waiting for replacement discs and I agree the whole situation has become a farce but I truly cannot wait until we all start getting back to talking about the show we love - not the show with errors!

Obviously apart from said errors, the show has never looked so good and the special features have all been marvelous, hopefully everyone can soon start enjoying the dvd sets as they should have been from the beginning and we can start talking about how fantastic it is!

Ramble over!

I definitely look forward to the "return" of your site, Alan!

And for the record, I know you and Jaz had nothing to do with the actual manufacturing of the DVD's and I think you guys did an awesome job gathering all the extra materials and creating the special features and such. 8)

Amen to that. There's enough garbage going on in life to have people getting stressed out because of what's going on in a fandom. This is all supposed to be for fun and relaxed enjoyment. There are much, much worse things in life than DVDs not working.

Alan, I'm so sorry to hear that all of this has coloured your feelings for the series. There's no question that the contributions of you and Jaz have elevated the DVDs beyond what they would have been had they been put out by people without the same level of affection for the series. I hope you'll be able to forget all the grief you've gotten, and get back to enjoying the series. :)

It hasn't coloured my feelings for the series itself - that would be silly. But for the moment, it seems it's impossible for me to approach it without the moans and groans (which are perfectly justified and I have sympathy for) getting in the way. Therefore, I've put the series to one side for a while so when I get back to it, the whole DVD issue will have blown over.

Obviously, as I've been working on the DVDs, I've taken the furore to heart - as Jaz, myself and many others have put 18 months of our lives into these DVDs and it's heartbreaking that things have not gone anywhere near as smoothly as we'd envisaged they would.

It's heartening to hear that many people can see over the problems and appreciate the hard work and love that's gone into making these DVDs.

I must say I agree with all the positive feedback posted recently. The DVD faults have been unfortunate and a little irritating having to send discs back to Optimum. But I persevered and received all of the replacement discs and I am very happy with the corrected sets. There has clearly been a lot of work that has gone into these sets and I think all concerned should be congratulated on some very excellent work. The show has never looked better and the extras are fabulous. :D
