Indeed, but the fact it's translucent is causing all sorts of issues !

I'm sure it'll lead to a great sense of achievement when it's done, though!!

I first thought about a lighting gel or maybe some expensive present wrapping "card"/box material but maybe they'd be too transparent. Maybe laminating together clear red and more opaque plain plastic would work... don't know how flexible it's meant to be, in the original prop, though.

so, will it be reproduced for the archives-slash-museum ? or produced in limited numbers for potential sales ?

I'm guessing it was a piece of red acrylic

Mmmm, it's very thin and acrylic is usually 3mm transparent or frosted, neither look right at all.
