I adore The Golden Eggs. It's in my top 10 of the whole series. It's so perfectly bleak. I love the wintery feel. Although I missed it last year (dvd issue), it's my traditional Christmas episode due to when I originally saw it. But even in the bleakness we have the great Steed and Cathy scenes. This is essentially another Cathy solo episode (given Macnee time off for the Venus Smith episode rehearsals). It's beautifully directed by Hammond, some great sets and not a performance out of line.

I love Conspiracy of Silence. It came alive for me last year when I connected with all the different characters. With the videotape episodes, a lot of the enjoyment is dependent in how much you engage with the other characters as unlike the film years, we get far more of the guests than just the focus being on Steed and Emma/Tara. The sets are really good in this one. The Circus location is so simply achieved with the wooden fences and carefully placed trees to create the impression of a field etc. Lots of nice little moments thanks to Peter Hammond.

Also if it wasn't due to the fact that I enjoy this episode so much - I probably wouldn't have spotted the DVD fault.
