Peter picks her up in a Rolls Royce Silver Shadow convertible by Mulliner Park Ward, the paintwork is in a colour called "silver sand". Licence plate is YMB 20F

Wasn't that lace outfit used as Emma's pajamas in Castle De'Ath? It's covered up by blankets and that lightweight dressing gown the whole time, but I'm pretty sure you can see the top of it when Emma sits up in bed.

When she walks down the stairs her belly-button is on show... contravening numerous American censorship laws!

That was when she was wearing the shiny blue outfit with the bra top and coat on over it, not the lace. Everyone just happened to miss the fact that the bottom of coat slid open--horrors!

No, it's a similar item that also features in that photoshoot

That has a wide boat neck and 3/4 length sleeves, as opposed to a high sort of cross between jewel neck and halter neck sleeveless. I can't quite tell if it's a body stocking or shirt and briefs, as the gown's belt hides the detail. It's probably a bodystocking as the back is scooped.

They're strikingly similar anyway--probably designed to follow the same theme.

TV Cars is great fun to read but I wouldn’t use it as a reference book. Giles Chapman may well, as you say, be repeating a memory told to him by Brian Clemens and memories are fallible. (Later in the book, for instance, the ‘action car coordinator’ on Lovejoy is quoted as saying unequivocally that there was only one Morris Minor convertible on the show, which is demonstrably untrue).

Lotus seem to have been unique amongst British car makers in recognising the value of product placement in the sixties. Whilst Roger More was unsuccessful in getting Jaguar to sell him a car for The Saint, the actor and motoring fanatic Ronald Leigh-Hunt negotiated the loan of a Lotus Elan for Freewheelers (in Gold Leaf colours for a children’s programme!)

SJH 499 D was registered in July 1966 in Hertfordshire, which suggests it may have been owned by the studio (Elstree of course is in Herts). If it had been leant by the factory it would almost certainly have had a Norfolk registration, as did Leigh-Hunt’s car.

Emma Peel’s Elan has now shipped with the rest of the Keswick cars to the Dezer collection in Miami http://www.dezercollection.com although it seems it is available to buy.

It was just a part of the Avengers entry that I hadn't heard before, and thought I'd see if anyone had heard the same. It sounded unlikely to me, but one never knows.
