Not only the best Avengers season, I'd state categorically that season 4 is the best season of ANY television series ever made. Rich.

Rodney's book is an excellent read, I finished it last night. I haven't read the extra chapter yet, which he was kind enough to email me. Will get round to it shortly!
no doubt, it is the best season...great scripts, etc...did the show peak with it?
Yes, but it wasn't all decline thereafter. The best mountains to climb have multiple peaks, and features of interest, and although season 4 is the highest peak, there are early highlights (the performances of Hendry and Blackman, and some great plots, even if the multi-camera studio video production is comparatively cheap and nasty) and after the duller first colour season with its repetitive formula, we do get some quirky and exciting stuff in Tara's season and in The New Avengers.

.. which is why The Avengers never jumped the shark. If the show had stopped when Diana Rigg left it certainly would have done, but there was still All Done With Mirrors, Noon Doomsday and other top episodes to go.

Looks like a good read - had a quick look on Amazon at the preview pages - just wish it could have been professionally typeset to avoid using hyphens. Definitely ordering a copy as soon as it becomes available again.

Jaz, there are no hyphens in the book at the ends of lines! Only if it is something like 'aptly-named'. etc. It is back online after a couple of corrections and should be available to buy again at £6.89 within the next couple of hours.[/b]
