A very sad day, I feared it was near when Christopher died; I'm not sure why.

Piers, strangely enough, after the death of Brian Clemens something said me that this will be a very sad year for Avengers fans... though I did not knew that so much.

In 1998, I purchased the entire Peel/Tara series in DVD and spent several wonderful months watching, for the first time since the Avengers originally aired, the shows that meant so much to me when young. But back then I had discovered the Avengers only after most of the B&W Peel episodes had already aired and so many were new to me. However, I deliberately avoided watching every B&W episode. I set aside two that I'd never seen before with the intent of watching them only upon the passing of the two stars--Patrick Macnee and Diana Rigg. In 1998, that day seemed comfortably far off in the future. Alas, it's finally arrived. Tonight, I'll watch one of the two remaining episodes with a full glass of scotch in hand. Thank you, Patrick. Rest in Peace.

When asked which of his original co-stars – Blackman as Cathy Gale, Rigg as Emma Peel, or Thorson as Tara King – were most appealing, Macnee replied: “The very first thing you learn if you’re a gentleman is that you never compare one woman to another. That’s the way of all death. You get a big pointed high heel in your groin and you’ll never walk again!”

A lesson there for all of us tempted to compare the Avengers ladies!

From the BBC News site, Diana Rigg's response to death of Patrick Macnee.

Dame Diana Rigg, who played Emma Peel in the show, said: "Patrick was a very dear man and I owe him a great deal."
