Recent Broadway star and Tony Award nominee, Joanna Lumley, takes a historical, theatrical and musical journey down America's "Street of Dreams".

The people at Radio 2 are very excited to have Joanna on the station--first giddy comments like "We have Purdey on Radio 2" by Jeremy Vine, then Simon Mayo makes Joanna his song theme of the day on his show. This being Simon, he naturally plays "Kinky Boots," though only because "TNA never produced a song that was a minute and a half long." I get the feeling that if Gareth and Joanna had done their own version ("Kinky Bottes," in deference to the French backers, perhaps? ), he would have quite happily played that. There is a chuck of the TNA theme in there, though. You can listen again on the iPlayer, as per usual:

Brilliant, Timeless. I'm sad I missed it.

I really want to hear a Gareth/Joanna version of Kinky Boots now. Genius idea - Gareth might have added a few new lyrics, the cad!

It was actually a pretty fun week, because all the TNA fans outed themselves. I didn't listen to Paul O'Grady that week, so I have no idea whether he commented on it, but Jeremy Vine talked about it twice--"I've always thought Joanna Lumley suited Radio 2." And Simon Mayo mentions his teenage crush on Purdey pretty regularly. He was the one who turned "Kinky Boots" into something of a novelty hit back in 1991, though, so I guess we shouldn't be surprised.

I would be willing to pay an indecent sum of money to hear Gareth and Joanna cover "Kinky Boots." I think it'd be a safe bet to assume it'd be hilarious, especially if Gareth ad-libbed. It probably wouldn't be radio-friendly once he was through with it, but that's what those "Parental Advisory" stickers are for.

I will attend to Joanna's new play 'The Lion in Winter' on November 5, at the Theatre Royal Haymarket (at 7.30pm).
Who's planning to go there, too ? :)

Joanna Lumley hits back at Gurkha critics

Post by Frankymole »

Joanna Lumley: "If you receive undeserved praise, you have to expect undeserved blame"

From being lionised as the national treasure and campaigner par excellence who forced the Labour government into a rethink on allowing Gurkhas to settle in Britain, she is now the target of an angry Facebook campaign, “Lumley’s Legacy”. Launched by residents of Aldershot and Farnborough, it blames her for “----ing up” their towns by paving the way for a “massive influx” of Gurkhas.

More: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/celebri ... blame.html

Joanna Lumley has hit back at “hateful, xenophobic” people who are against her campaign for Gurkhas to move to Britain.

Her autobiography was sent to me and I got the copy yesterday. I've read most of it (I'm somewhere in the middle at this stage) and this precious book is a 'must have'. Many rare photos (about Jo's modelling career) but also about her NA experience (document describing the New Avenger Girl) were provided thanks to Joanna, again. :D

Is there much "new" stuff regarding TNA in the book? I've heard that the pictures are ones that we've seen many times before, so I'm just wondering if the text provides any new insights?

She doesn't refer 'very much to it', in depth so to speak (no description about Peter Cushing who had brought her some flowers when filming EAGLE'S NEST). She just adds she crossed his path again with the new avengers (reminder: first time she met him was in a Dracula movie).

But among the NA photos, there's this NA promo with a special description of Purdey (the fact she studied in France, the skills she has as an agent etc).

What is precious on the other hand is the amount of photos from her in the modelling industry (she got so many styles and can easily be assimilated to another Twiggy, that's my opinion :D ).
