Documentary Evidence - There Were 6 Series of The Avengers!

Post by Alan »

Clearly ABC referred to both the videotaped and filmed series as Series 1, 2 and 3 (which makes sense, as they were made by different production teams). This of course means that they did not refer to what is commonly referred to as Series 5B as a separate season.

Discuss! :)

Presumably "neener neener neener" doesn't count as discussion?

No, really, that's fascinating, Alan. So in the minds of those that were making it, Tara's era was one big season. Any indication as to whether they lumped any Riggs in there as well (other than The Forget-Me-Not), or did season five end as soon as Diana was out of the picture?

So the filmed season was a considered remake of the videtaped era?

Excellent Alan! But now we have nothing more to talk about. I guess we'll just have to get rid of the forum. JUST KIDDING!!!! Sheesh! I heard screams, coffee being spit out, glasses dropping, and bodies hitting the floor in dead faints all the way over here!

Good job you couldn't hear anyone skipping across the floor, with their ams behind their back like a girl chanting "I-was-right-I-was-right!" And then a doing a Riverdance in the middle of the living room.

Not me, obviously.

So if you go with this it's:

Dr. Keel 1961 episodes = Series 1
Gale/King/Venus 1962/63 episodes = Series 2
Gale episodes 1963/64 = Series 3

Peel Monochrome 1965/66 = Series 1
Peel Colour 1967 = Series 2
Tara King 1968/69 = Series 3

Suddenly the confusion about 6 or 7 seasons seems not so bad.:?
Just kidding! Nice discovery, this kind of seems to bring it down to one season with a break in it.

I didn't care whether I was right or wrong, I always classed it as six series. :D (But I always knew I was right  )

We're not going to start calling series 4... series 1 though... I know some people don't bother with what came before but still... is this a whole new can of worms!?!

I love it when these random titbits of info come to light.

It's very common for relaunched series to be started again from Series 1, sometimes purely on production documentation. Apparently the forthcoming Fifth Series of Doctor Who will be named Series 1 on paperwork due to it having a completely new production team (I assume it'll be referred to as Series 5 elsewhere).

The way I look at it is this:

Keel (1961) = Videotaped Series 1 = Overall Series 1
Gale/King/Venus (1962/63) = Videotaped Series 2 = Overall Series 2
Gale (1963/64) = Videotaped Series 3 = Overall Series 3

Peel Monochrome (1965/66) = Filmed Series 1 = Overall Series 4
Peel Colour (1967) = Filmed Series 2 = Overall Series 5
Tara King (1968/69) = Filmed Series 3 = Overall Series 6

Well, to court the image of my skipping about shouting "I was right", I feel strangely vindicated. Any visitor to my site would know I've always held this to be true. Well done, Alan - and He Who Cannot Be Named told me point blank two years ago he'd never seen any Avengers call sheets!
Shame on him!

Do they list the screen artistes by name, as the BBC call sheets do?

Actually.. (cross over between threads, is that called a weft?) .. that would be something I'd love to see in the new DVD sets - liner notes as good as Andrew Pixley's were for Adam Adamant.
