The Town of No Return

This is quite an interesting shot as Patrick Newell is seen on some location filming - not sure why a double would be used when Newell's there too. I'm curious if this might have been shot for the original version with Elizabeth Shepherd.

I've always assumed it was from the original production. The man looks too old to be a stuntman, I wonder who the actor actually is.

I agree he looks to old to be a stuntman, so hence I thought this might be from the original version. I'm also interested to know who the actor might be as it would mean that Patrick Newell wasn't in the original version.

Interestingly it kind of looks like Smallwood's brother as seen in his photo.

I just watched the scene in Town Of No Return where your still appears. I never noticed until now that it's not Patrick Newell. Maybe the other guy is in some of the distant chase shots too.

I cover this on my site, it's the real school inspector - that's why he turns up muddy and panting when Mrs Peel encounters him.

I've just looked at this again and it definitely looks more like footage from the original version and with a different actor playing Smallwood. The actor does have a strong resemblance to Smallwood's brother, Tom, the blacksmith.

It's definitely not Mark Brandon, the 'real' schools inspector (who on-screen is NOT wearing glasses, an overcoat or a scarf when he bursts in on Mrs Peel) as they look totally different.

I shall check the script over the weekend and get back to everyone...

Is it possible that Smallwood's brother got similarly chased (in one of the versions) but the scene was cut?
