I've just been listening to the radio show episode "A Deadly Gift," and I was reminded of just how much I love this iteration of the show. Donald Monat does the impossible and makes Steed his own, the music's wonderful, the narrator is in on the joke, and the Steed-Emma interactions play beautifully. So I thought I'd start a poll in the "spun-off" section and see what medium others prefer in following the adventures of Steed and co.

The radio show every time.

I'd love to have seen The Avengers on stage though....

The radio series is quite wonderful in my opinion, and Donald Monat a Steed to rival Macnee in my affections (which is some achievement).

I voted for the novels. Everyone here knows I love fanfiction, and I just love reading about series in general

Has anyone here in the forum, actually saw the ' play ' ? or perhaps
know of someone who did ? I would be interested in hearing about
it, and how it came off, etc

The novels would probably be my second choice, particularly brilliant ones that nail the characters, like Fighting Men. I have a complete set and enjoyed them all (except the Garforths). I thought about adding fanfic to the list, but it's not "official" as it were. Still lots of fun, though--to read and to write!

I would've loved to have seen the play, too, even if it was bad (although I've read it was too ambitious for its own good and suffered because of that more than anything). Wasn't born at the time, unfortunately, and I've never heard from anyone who actually saw it.

The only Avengers fan I know of who saw it is Dave Rogers, but he appears to be out of circulation these days, sadly.

Of the other choices, I'm not really familiar with the comics, have read the novels once many years ago and wasn't desperately impressed, never saw the stage play and enjoyed the movie (so lynch me! ), so hard though it may be to take, my second choice from the spin-offs would be possibly the least loved incarnation of The Avengers - the movie.

I voted for the radio show too. And I guess my second favorite would be the movie because I've never read the comics or novels and I'm not old enough to have seen the play.

Some of the novels are pretty patchy in terms of the characters, but others are quite surprisingly good. Either way, I found them entertaining fluff reads, the sort you can switch your mind off and enjoy. Plus, they remind me of my early days watching the show. My first Avengers item was a copy of The Magnetic Man, so I have fond memories of reading it. I actually read both Tara and Purdey and Gambit before actually seeing them on screen, and I think to this day some of what was written about them by the authors influences how I perceive the episodes.I've read all the comic books, but not anywhere near all the various strips. Steed and Mrs. Peel is probably the best plotwise. But strange...
