The Avengers Fan Forum

The recent passing away of Patrick Macnee certainly brought a lot of old names back to the board (some of who we have not seen here for years) to pay their respects. I was thinking that it would be nice if they would stick around and wondered if anyone else thought the same?

It's always nice seeing different people posting different things here about how they enjoy the show. And it'd be nice to think that people keep re-discovering their fondness for these series.

That's one of the nice things about fandom. It's like a never-ending party. And occasionally, you may feel that you need a break ... step outside, have a wander about for a bit, do some other stuff ... but the great thing is that when you do want to come back, it's still there and as fun as ever. The party just keeps going on ...

All the best

Couldn't agree more Andrew - I'd love to post more (I don't think I've even posted in the PM obituary thread) but time constraints don't allow it, especially after having to devote so much time in recent weeks to the Treasure Hunt. I'm sure a lot of other people are in the same position and like me, pop in to have a look around but don't have time to post.

I'm not generally great at posting either. I tend to answer a question that might be posted if I can and I have a moment (because I'd like to help) or more often to comment that I also enjoy a favourite episode or to enthuse about another series altogether.

I'm not very good at pontificating on or appraising the episodes ... but then so many other people do that so well. So I just like to browse those threads now and again. But I do enjoy learning new stuff about the show's production, or reading new perspectives from people who have enjoyed the show in a very different context to my own.

All the best

Andrew and Geoff

Thanks for your observations on this.

I guess what I was hoping for was at least one of those names from the past posting on this thread and saying, "I'm back, I'm back, I'm definitely back!"

But perhaps that's a little too much to hope for.

As mentioned the forum is here for those who wish to contribute and get involved.

This forum is not the only Avengers fan community out there, though. There is a fairly active tumblr fandom. It's skewed more towards women and seems to have wider age range. There were many discussions and tributes following Patrick's death.

The problem with tumblr is it's 99% pictures which people just like and don't comment on - and 98% of them are porn.

I'm, uh, not sure what tumblr pages you're looking at...

As I say, there is a fan community, and there's a good bit of discussion, fan fiction, images, gifs, and conversations. Part of what a fandom is.

Perhaps you could you post a link please? I haven't been able to find anything relevant just by searching on tumblr.

Thanks.

Search for character names, not The Avengers (that'll just come up with a lot of Marvel).

The problem with tumblr is that it's all about tags and those tags can get lost in the shuffle.
