Channel 4 repeats 1995

Post by MusicalDave »

Hi. Does anyone have transmission details for the Channel 4 UK repeats of series 5&6 in the mid nighties? I think this must have been around 1995.

Does anyone have a list of the episodes they showed and on what dates?

Many thanks in advance. Dave.

I don't have the details you ask for but I'm certain that they showed series 4 before moving on to 5 and then later 6. And I'm fairly certain that they stopped showing these repeats altogether before they had shown all of series 6. I'm just going by memory here, I was only a kid at the time but these were my formative memories of the programme so they feel quite strong.

I know that Channel Four screened the premiere of the uncut version of A Touch of Brimstone on 10th August 1997 at 12.30-1.30am.
Fortunately, I still have the original video-tape recording, dated 10/8/97, in my personal archive collection.
This was series 4, I'm not sure about 5 & 6 - I hope this helps :)

They stuck the rest of the black and white episodes (once they skipped them to go for season 5) in a late night sunday/monday morning slot. And I think My Wildest Dream also got a showing at that time.

Thanks so much!

That means the first episode of the Avengers I'd have seen would have been somewhere between Something Funny Happened on the way to the station and return of the cybernauts in early 96. Shame those entries aren't listed by episode title.

Thanks. Dave.

The Guardian lists episode titles:

02/1/96: The Correct way To Kill
09/1/96: Never, Never Say Die
16/1/96: Epic
23/1/96: The Superlative Seven
30/1/96: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Station
06/2/96: Something Nasty in the Nursery
13/2/96: The Joker
20/2/96:
27/2/96: The £50,000 Breakfast
05/3/96: Death's Door
12/3/96: The Return of the Cybernauts

For some reason the issue of 20 Feb isn't online so that title remains to be found.

Great thanks again. That means (mystery Feb episode notwithstanding) my first episode was Death's Door. Makes sense as it's my all time favourite episode - so no surprise I got hooked on the show!

thanks for that, I would never have worked that out from the description in The Times:
2 Jan 96. 6.00 The Avengers. Steed (Patrick Macnee) and Emma (Diana Rigg) fight to prove their innocence after they are framed for murder.
When I was researching Australian TX dates I had to cross-reference between 5 different newspapers as the consistency of record was so poor.
The Sydney Morning Herald was the best but I had to use the Sun, Telegraph, Age, Mercury and others to fill the gaps.
Mrs Peel, you're needed!
