Yesterday morning some episodes of The Avengers appeared on the UK streaming service Britbox. According to this announcement they were 1x series 1 episode and 15 from series 4.

Unfortunately by midday they had gone again! Hopefully, just a technical glitch and they will return.

ITV4 and Britbox both specialise in "retro" TV. However, the lack of new material means that the main channels are putting out increasingly old shows. This week the BBC broadcast Joanna Lumley's Girl Friday from 1994, while peak time ITV on Wednesday had a 1991 episode of Poirot.

Another few months of lockdown and we could well be getting Steed back on mainstream television!

Britbox said that The Avengers was "uploaded due to a technical error" - hence why it was removed again.

I'm assuming they mean it will be uploaded ultimately but it went out early by mistake.

The first six episodes of series 5 are currently on ITV Player.

If they bothered to upload it, one would suspect it will be for a reason.

Not happy by the way. I fear online viewing services will long term kill home video.

Yes, they wouldn't have uploaded entire hour long episodes by accident if they didn't intend to add them to their catalogue later on. I'm fairly sure their "developer" site already has a section with most of the episodes - if not all of them - and that they're just waiting for this or that date, or for a contract to be signed, to offer them to the public.

The Avengers is now back on Britbox, hopefully to stay this time.

"Girl on a Trapeze" and "Tunnel of Fear" plus all of series 4,5 & 6.

It's brilliant that the series is now on Britbox in the UK and hopefully it will make it over to britbox America and Canada soon if its not already on there and to other steaming platforms in other countries. I was wondering if anyone knew why is "The Frighteners" is not available and also season 2 and 3. I can understand if another broadcaster has the rights to season 2 and 3 so maybe that is the reason why they are not there but I can't see any reason why "The Frighteners" is not included. I have watched "Girl on a Trapeze" and "Tunnel of Fear" and "Girl on a Trapeze" looks great and seems to be the same print as used on the UK season two DVD box set with the ad-break captions and next week's episode card intact but unfortunately "Tunnel of Fear" is the bad copy used for the UK DVD release and not the better copy that I saw at Kaleidoscope and at the BFI and to add insult the episode is edited to remove ad-break captions and the next week's episode card. I have contacted Britbox and hopefully if more people do maybe what is not on there at the moment will show up soon and the uncut "Tunnel of Fear" but who knows. The few season 4 episodes I have viewed looks very good and hopefully it will be the same quality for season 5 and 6, here's to hoping now that with The Avengers steaming on Britbox that it will make more people fall in love with the series.

It's great the attention doesn't fade away, but on the other hand steramig is so cheap nowadays, that it doesn't mean much anymore.
I prefered it when it was available on dvd and bluray. People had to be willing to pay real money for it. That's quite some difference when it comes to being willing to pay attention.
