John Cater has died fairly recently, he appeared in The Nutshell, Death at Bargain Prices and The Living Dead. A wonderful actor, alway thoroughly watchable. He appeared in so much.
A career spanning 50 years: I, Claudius, Shalom Salaam, One Foot In The Grave, Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter, Up Pompeii, The Duchess Of Duke Street, Casualty/Z-Cars etc etc and latterly the first episode of Bonekickers.

Oh this is a great shame.
Great in all of his Avengers appearances of course but he will always be remembered, by me at least, best as Captain Kronos's hunchbacked assistant, Professor "I profess to be" Hieronymous Grost in the Hammer film Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter, which, written and directed by Brian Clemens always came across as a sort of Gothic Avengers.
Never met the man, but speaking to people who have, he was apparently a very welcoming and approachable person.
R.I.P. John Cater.

You check the files, I'll check my memories.

Here's a picture of him at the Kronos Reunion with Clemens and a few of the cast.

And a shot of him from the sixties wearing his almost trademark glasses (from Doctor Who - The War Machines).

In the Avengers he was:
The Nutshell - Disco!
Death at Bargain Prices - the store detective who Emma finds dead in the store jungle display.
The Living Dead - Olliphant. Almost responsible for Steed's death at the hands of the firing squad until Emma comes to the rescue.
