Best dialogue or scene between John Steed and Cathy Gale?

Post by ischtar »

I like Steed and Emma Peel very much, but my favorite avengers are Cathy Gale and John Steed. He is often impudent, he knows exactly, what makes her angry, he is always teasing her and manipulating (at least he is trying to do), but he respects her and her abilities. She is a good friend, someone he trusts, an equal partner. There are many great dialogues and scenes between Steed and Cathy, funny and serious ones.

A funny one is that dialogue from "Mr Teddy Bear" :

The are talking about Dr. Bowell, an African art and masks expert.

Cathy: "He is an expert on the upper Nil. He is supposed be be coming to see some of my heads"
Steed: "Oh, how many have you got? Oh those..."

And I like the scene in the morgue from "Lobster Quadrille", when Steed is realising, that the corpse is not Cathy.

So, what's your favorite scene or dialogue?

Some pictures for motivation:

So many, but certainly:
Picking her flowers in Don't Look Behind You.
Asking him where he got his 'Chef name' in Death à la Carte.
Cathy's "Cook it and see" in Man With Two Shadows.
oh and when Steed doesn't put the tiger's trapdoor down in The White Elephant!

Good topic, but there are lot to choose from, wish I knew more by heart.

One I like is from the Undertakers:

Steed: Shall I send you a postcard?
Cathy: Put a stamp on it this time.

I don't remember the exact dialoge, but in "Mousetrap:"

Cathy: Anything you need from stores?
Steed: Nothing you would be willing to give up.

I still like the bit about Steed wanting to be banged up in a women's prison.

Oh, Steed ... dirty boy, bad boy. In your bed!

As I'm still trawling through Series 3 I'll keep an ear open for some sparkly / frosty Steed and Cathy interchanges and will post them here!
